About Us: The Industry Advisory Board
The Lionel Wilson Preparatory High School Industry Advisory Board has been assembled to support students on their journey toward fulfilling professional careers of their choosing. The board aims to create connections between students, faculty and local professionals. We partner closely with school faculty to support their Engineering Pathway and Linked Learning program which provides students with hands-on experiences, helping to prepare them for real-world opportunities. The makeup of our board includes LWP’s principal, current LWP teachers and school administrators and professionals who graciously devote their time to our very worthy cause.
The industry advisory board meets regularly - primarily virtually these days – to provide connections and support programs that ensure we meet the needs of Lionel Wilson students and staff. Services that have been offered include student resume reviews, mock job interviews with advisor feedback, professional presentations, faculty job site visits / walk throughs (day in the life) and student subject-matter presentations, review and feedback.

Linked Learning
What is Linked Learning?
Linked learning is an opportunity for students to have a learning experience that is integrated with career awareness, academics, exploration, and experiential opportunities.
Linked Learning incorporates four core components that are proven to increase student outcomes:
- Rigorous academics - core subjects that prepare all students for college.
- Career-based learning in the classroom - professional skills and industry related knowledge woven into lessons and assignments to give students career context.
- Work-based learning in professional settings - a range of real-world experiences from mentoring to job shadowing and internships, that expose students to possible career paths.
- Integrated student-supports - dedicated support services tailored to the need of each student such as counseling and supplemental instruction.
Engineering Pathway
At Lionel Wilson Prep, students have the opportunity to learn technical engineering skills through a 4-year sequence of engineering courses from Project Lead the Way that will prepare students for actual engineering careers through hands-on experiences using industry standard tools and programs, as well as the design thinking process.
Why an Engineering Pathway?
The United States has a great need to fill jobs in the field of engineering, and can’t currently meet the demand. Additionally, of the top 30 highest-paying college majors, over 20 of them are in engineering and computer science.
Lionel Wilson Prep supports an Engineering Pathway for students because it’s an industry that presents significant college and career attainment opportunities.
